Under Mae Tree: una notte da favola!

Nella nostra isola, a Bunny Isles, abbiamo ricostruito l'ambiente dell'antica leggenda di Nyamgondho, molto diffusa nel popolo Luo in Kenya, che mette in evidenza il valore sacro del Lago Vittoria. Ecco cosi rinascere, in un mondo virtuale, il grande albero sacro che si trova vicino a Nyandiwa, dove anche oggi gli abitanti si ritrovano per chiacchierare e pregare, portando fiori e doni agli spiriti del lago.
Ci siamo trovati ieri, 28 novembre 2012, sotto l'albero di Mae con moltissimi amici che seguono il progetto "Harambee Gwassi-Kenya" per scoprire questo antica tradizione attraverso il racconto di Eddie Santillo, Dada Mhia e Loredana Loring.
Anticamente, il povero pescatore Mae arrivò sulla spiaggia del Lago Vittoria vicino a Nyandiwa. Pescando, trovò nella sua rete una vecchia donna - Nyamgondho, una specie di dea del lago - che sposò ma, diventato ricco e superbo, non riconoscerà più il rapporto di dipendenza dal lago, verrà punito con la perdita di tutte le sue ricchezze e trasformato in albero.
Vicino all'albero di Mae abbiamo ricostruito anche il sito archeologico con i resti della casa del pescatore e le rocce fossili che, si dice, conservano le impronte degli animali e delle mogli del pescatore, che si gettarono nel lago.
L'evento, riprodotto anche in LiveStream, diventerà un video che pubblicheremo tra pochi giorni ed ha visto un grande pubblico che ha partecipato con molte donazioni!

In our Bunny Isles, we have reconstructed the ancient environment of Nyamgondho legend, widely diffused among the Luo people in Kenya, that highlights the sacred value of Victoria Lake. So here is reborn in a Virtual world, the Great Sacred Tree that is located near Nyandiwa, where even today the people come together to talk and pray, carrying flowers and gifts to the spirits of the Lake.

We met yesterday, 28 november 2012, under the Mae's tree with many friends who follow the "Harambee Gwassi-Kenya" project, to discover this ancient tradition through the story of Eddie Santillo, Dada Mhia and Loredana Loring.
In ancient times, the poor fisherman Mae arrived on the shore of Victoria Lake near Nyandiwa. Fishing, he found an old woman in his net - Nyamgondho, a kind of goddess of the lake - he married but, became rich and proud, no longer recognize the dependency ratio from the Lake, will be punished with the loss of all his wealth and transformed into a tree.
Near the Mae's tree we reconstructed the archaeological site with the remains of the fisherman house and the fossil rocks, that are said to preserve the footprints of animals and the wives of the fisherman, who threw themselves into the Lake.
The event also played on LiveStream, will become a video that  we'll publish in a few days and saw a large audience who attended with many donations!
